One of these days, I need to draw Edward smiling. Im so mean to the poor guy . . .
My first ever crossover fanart! This is a new favorite crack-crossover friendship of mine that makes me laugh. Vash the Stampede (Trigun) and Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist) have so much in common . . . and yet so much not. They both have blonde hair, long red coats, fancy boots, and even metallic limbs. Heck, theyre both also somewhat super-human (I wont say why; Im trying to keep this spoiler-free). But there are some things they do NOT have in common. Height, for example. Vash has got to be the tallest and lankiest guy in anime, while Ed has to use his hair and boots just to top five feet. So Vash cheerfully pointing out their similarities would probably set Edward off like dynamite. Which leads to another difference between the two . . . disposition. Vash is cheerful Mr. Love and Peace who hates to see anyone (even enemies) suffering and is happy-go-lucky to a fault, while Edward is Mr. Teenage Mood Swing wholl launch himself automail-fist first at anyone who so much as looks at him funny.
So heres the result of their first meeting. Vash tries to be friendly, and Ed is just . . . well, Ed. Alphonse is embarrassed at his brothers childish behavior, while Meryl just sees Vash loafing around as usual.
Only the main pic is fully shaded, because it just looked wrong to shade the comical chibis. That, and I couldnt figure out how to shade Al. Al was drawn in the funny-metal-lump style because I try to avoid drawing the Al armor detail whenever possible; I dont know how Arakawa can draw that thing so often. Meryl never has that cloak of hers in my art; I dont mind it over all, but I hate the front of it (makes it look like shes constantly wearing a bib).
Yeah yeah, laugh at my lame attempt at transmutation effects. No seriously, laugh at it. It's not supposed to look cool; it's supposed to look funny.
The height difference again comes from my FMA Profiles book, where you see a height chart with some main characters. The difference here is based on Ed's height in comparison with Al and Armstrong, with maybe a few more inches given to Vash because he's just so bleepin' TALL!
Background is rather simple, because nothing elaborate would fit and I ran out of patience trying to figure out what the heck I should do. The more art I do the harder backgrounds get, because Im running out of new ideas on how to fudge it. ^_~
Now Im going to post this, and hope that DA doesnt crash again, like it has the last two times Ive posted Trigun art. Poor Vash is soooo cursed . . .
Trigun is copywrited to Yasuhiro Nightow and whoever else holds the anime/manga production rights. Fullmetal Alchemist is copyrighted by Hiromou Arakawa, and anyone that has the anime and manga publishing rights. Yada, yada, yada . . . what do you want from me? Im not a lawyer!
EDIT: Now that I've posted this, I've done a search and pulled up a buncha Ed/Vash pics, darn it. Now I'm feeling unoriginal. Oh well, such obvious similarities (and an obviously hilarious difference) in two popular animes was bound to be noticed.
I love the chibi panel! "You're hogging all the height!" XD That's a hoot!
I forget where, but somebody else did a crossover with these guys, and Vash was patting shorty there on the head. No second panel on that pic, though it'd prolly match yours!
Anyhow, good job, the scenario and your execution of it are delightful ^_^

Wow. I'm impressed with the height thing. I usually have a hard time keeping people in proportion when I show short people next to tall people. And then you go and show these two together. I applaud you. *claps*

Well...*looks sheepish* I did digitally change some heights. I actually drew Ed too tall and had to shrink him in Photoshop. Drawing differences in height really is difficult. That's why I love working digitally; I can fix and change whatever I want. ^_^
Thanks though!
I don't think I can breathe from how funny this comic is.
I was giggling from the first panel because I knew it had to be heading somewhere like that, but was completely surprised. Great work!

I promise you I'm working on stuff. Just what stuff, I haven't gotten to do. Work tends to pile up and smother me. I'm also trying to beat Pokemon Emerald, so yeah..
You've always been a really good artist, fairly faithful to the character designs, at least so well as to fool me, and your humor is very original.
I've never seen the joke done before half as well as you had done it.

Actually, I've been looking around on Deviantart, and I'm seeing tons of Vash/Ed pics. Now I'm feeling unoriginal, lol.
Kidding. ^_^ Everyone has their own unique take.
Thanks though!
