Dumb title, but it gets the point across.
OK, so I'm really getting into this cartoon. Enough to start having dreams, apparantly. One was about Prowl and Rachet tinkering with the AllSpark and human DNA and because of Bumblebee's tinkering with the scanner, the end result was this. Not really possible, but since when do dreams follow laws? I see this as Sari taking a group picture and telling everyone to pose. Bulkhead tries very hard to get a cool pose, only to get tangled in his cables and so pulls this pose as if he did it on purpose. Optimus Prime holds up his axe and asks "How's this?" right as the shot is taken, resulting in a seriotypical hero pose, which fits him really. Rachet folds his arms and says "What do ya take me for, some spotlight-hogging, fresh-from-the-acadamy, premie-bot?" and proceeds to growl at the camera. Bumblebee of course gets into the action; this is just up his alley. Prowl gives a sigh of long suffering, and it's not until a split second till the shutter goes off that he suddenly ducks into a crouch. The second after that the camera goes off, and the second after THAT Bumblebee whines that Prowl cut in on his action, not to mention cut in front of him. My art style changed slightly for this; imagine that! For starters, I worked with DIFFERENT FACIAL SHAPES AND BODY STRUCTURES for EACH PERSON!! Whoa, concept! I'm branching out! ^_^ I also did the eyes differently than usual too. You can't tell from this far back, but their eyes have the same light-blue-pupil-on-electric-blue-iris that they have in the series, just looking more human. Quick commentary on each, going in order from back left to right, then front left to right: Bulkhead: He's a military truck, so I went with military gear. He's also huge in robot form, so he comes off as a 350 lb. muscle-man pushing 7 1/2 feet. He's a good shot with his Morning Stars of Mass Destruction, although a lot of collateral damage probably occurs from each swing. I almost gave him a Mr. T haircut (because that's what his robot helmet looked like), but that just looked ridiculous. In human mode, his ability is super-strength, obviously. Optimus Prime: His outfit colors, like with all of them, reflects his robot form, but isn't a direct copy. I want his jacket. I made his hair blue like his robot helmet, because not other color really fit. His outfit is somewhat futuristic to reflect the time period he and his team are on earth. It took me FOREVER to find a hairstyle that I liked, and while it makes him look cool, I'm not sure the end result looks like it'll speak with his cartoon voice. Oh well. I tried to tone down his "hero lips" that he has in the show, because they bug me. Used an energy blade tutorial for his axe, because that had to be done right. His powers are his leadership and gadgetry (like Batman), and I just realized I forgot to draw his utility belt. >>_<< Rachet: He kept his color scheme too, and boy did it work for him. A future-yet-retro medical suit for the doc-bot really worked. I modeled his hair after his helmet, which worked real well. I even gave him a scar on his forhead to match his broken helmet-prong. He also has a scar on his arm, but you can't see that 'cause of the sleeve. Of everyone, I'm most pleased with his face, because IT'S AN OLD GUY, AND I DIDN'T BOTCH IT!! ^_^ I love Rachet. He's got his electro-magnetic prongs, which make his power. Bumblebee: The ever-hyper teeny-teen of the group had to look that in human mode, and I hope I pulled it off. He still has his BBee expression, which was necessary. Of everyone, I like his character design best, if only for his outfit. I never much liked yellow and black, but that really makes the color combo for me. Futuristic, with a wild, crazy-teen feel. Goggles because they rock and I wanted to draw SOMEone with them. I went with really wild blonde hair, thus making it look like he either stuck his finger in an outlet, was driving at 100 mph with his head out the window, or didn't bother to comb his hair after getting up in the morning, either of which is highly probable. He's still got his "stingers", so his electrical affinity makes for his ability, as well as his speed (he's still got "wheels on heels", you'll note). I initially made his lightning yellow, as they're supposed to be, but it disappeared into his costume. So I went with energon blue instead. EDIT: People have been noticing, so I'll put in another word. All reference to any similarity with Naruto was UNINTENTIONAL. As in OOPS. I don't even WATCH that show. But if you get a kick out of it, go ahead and laugh at the irony. ^_^; DOUBLE EDIT: OK PEOPLE!! I GET it!! HE LOOKS LIKE NARUTO! IT. WAS. UNINTENTIONAL! Geez, maybe I should just go back and change his skin tone on this pic too, even IF it just makes him blend into Bulkie's leg... Prowl: Background is rendered from a pic from the ep "Headmaster", of inside their hideout. Could have been cooler, but my imagination was dried up with just drawing this thing. I wanted to to a cityscape, but that would have taken forever... Transformers Animated copyrighted to Cartoon Network and Hasbro. EDIT: SO...who's seen the teaser pics for CANON humanformers? [link] The TFA crew have released sketchwork of the main Autobot cast as humans! SO COOL! I'm...just gonna have to swallow my pride and accept that my art is now just fanstuff and not the real thing. So much mixed feelings on this. Especially since while some designs I like (Optimus and Rachet are spot-on), others...might take some getting used to (I'm looking at you Bee and...no, not sure I can ever get used to poor Bulkhead...and where's Prowl's design? I hope they don't use his motorcycle's holoimage...shudder...) |
