Legion of Super Heroes

Look! Legion of Super Hero art that isn't just about Brainy! . . . OK, so it has Brainy in it; what do you want from me?? This is the group in Season Two, as I've been watching that season more recently. This is also my entry to the contest for their club ID.

For all of those who are getting sick of my LOSH art, sorry...I'm in mourning. Kids WB is getting cancelled come fall season, and I grew up with that programming. Even worse, this means the end of LOSH. No more after season two (although there are rumors of some direct to DVD movies...but don't quote me on that; they're just rumors). This bites because I love the characters and the story had so much potential, plus they had a whole lotta things left that they could have pulled from the comics.
That being said, I'm not suprised about the cancellation. LOSH isn't as popular as Teen Titans, and the second season was...um...not very well thought-out. There were a lot of plot holes and stock dialogue and other issues. Despite this, the characters were still excellent, so I still watched, hoping that it would get better or that the next season would bring back the fun of season one.
But no such luck. There will be no season three, and all I have left to look forwards to are three more eps. At least the season finale promises to be Brainy centric...

For all of you who don't watch the series (and what the heck; for those who do too), here's a role call. Starting with the upper-left corner, we have:

1. Cosmic Boy, powers of magnetism. The only one here who's not one of the main group that you see all the time, and yet is the leader of the Legion. Go figure. Personally, I'm glad as he's an arrogant jerk who won't get off his high horse and notice how people feel. OK, so I'm biased; I like his current comic book version SO much better than his cartoon version. But I suppose he could be worse. I DID get a kick out of seeing him get beaten by Grimbor in the beginning of Season Two's ninth episode...Grimbor, who's weapons are chains, beats Cosmic Boy, who's powers are magnetic. Um...this is why I say season two isn't as well written...

2. Lightning Lad (not Faramir), powers of electricity. While he keeps making me do a double-take looking for LOTR characters in his face, I like him better in season two. S1 he was a jealous jock, and he's matured a lot more currently. He's a bit of a rogue, but is fun and cares for his teammates. This pic is probably from before episode four, and for all of those who know the series you know why...

3. Saturn Girl, powers of telepathy and telekenisis. A rather interesting character design, and the one that changes the least visually from season one to two. Saturn Girl's pretty cool, despite being the steriotypical calm, controlled psychic. She was out cold in a coma for most of season two, sadly, but has recently rejoined. And there was much rejoycing.

4. Brainiac 5, powers of robotic gagetry and being "smarter than thou". If you watch me, you know of him already; I've done several art pieces dedicated to him because he's my favorite character and is just that cool. The geeks/techno-fan tend to be my favorite characters in series. He may be going evil; we'll have to wait till the season finale to see how badly Brainiac 1.0 messed him up...

5. Phantom Girl, powers of...going through stuff like a ghost. PG is fun, and we don't see enough of her. Which is probably why I don't have much of a read on her powers. She can phase through things and short out machinery, and can fight pretty well. She gets a pretty good sarcastic streak going sometimes as well.

6. Bouncing Boy, power to...inflate like a balloon and bounce. Yep, that's his power. Still one of the weirdest I've heard of, but he manages to pull it off pretty cool. He was elected leader at the end of season one, but apparantly Emperor Cosmic was back in power in season two...go figure. BB is easy-going, understanding, and generally an all around great guy. One of my favorite characters in LOSH.

7. Duo Damsel (aka Triplicate Girl), power of duplication. Poor DD used to be able to split into three, but lost one of her trips in the first ep of season two. Then she got a character redesign and now looks way cooler with her new goth look. She was kinda valley girl in season one, but has matured in season two. Have only seen her in three eps, so I can't quite put her personality into words, but she's cool.

8. Chameleon Boy, powers of shapeshifting. My second favorite character, as he's just that cool. He's the fun-loving, sarcastic, wise-cracking, joke-throwing member of the group. His voice acting is perfect for his attitude, and he's the most visually expressive character (I love his expressions). I want to draw more of this guy, because he's so much fun to draw.

9. Timber Wolf, powers of enhanced senses and being all animal-like. TW is a decent character, but all episodes with him focus on the same thing; his worry that his beast side will overtake him. That gets old real quick. I do like some of the lines they give him, and his character design is pretty cool (with exception of the lack of forhead and flat-topped head...I fixed that a litte in my art style, hopefully).

10. Superman, powers of, well, everything. You all know Superman...nice guy, loyal friend, can beat up anything under a yellow sun, etc. He's another of my favorite characters, although I like his awkward, skinny, Clark Kent persona of season one better (when he was Superboy...it was nice to see him trying to figure out his powers).

There's no Superman X in this pic, because while he's one of the main group, he's technically not a Legionare; no one's given him a ring yet, as far as I've seen. Besides, I thought it more important to include the group leader, even though he's not really a main character.
