OK, if you haven't guessed, this pic and the following commentary have some SERIOUS spoilers for the series finale of Legion of Super Heroes...

HOLY CHARACTER REVAMP, BATMAN!!! (((O_O)))

Dang, and I thought the character design change Brainiac 5 went through for the second season was huge. But in the last five minutes of Dark Victory pt. II, they freakn' turned the android HUMAN!?! I nearly fell out of my seat in shock! All my Brainy art is now obsolete, lol!

Not...entirely sure how I feel about this. Half of me is cheering and leaping for joy. This kind of shark-jumping doesn't happen much in cartoons. I've been waiting all season for this kind of character development. And I can't say I'm entirely caught off guard either; ever since season one's "Fear Factory" episode where you learn Brainy has a Pinocchio complex I was wondering if they would turn him human. I even toyed with drawing my own rendition. Good thing I held out. This was a wonderful moment of character revelation.
However, the other half of me is bothered. As cool as Human Brainy is, Robot Brainy was cooler. I liked that about his incarnation as compared to the comic books; android characters tend to be interesting in their abilities and character designs. It made him unique among Brainiac 5's in the DC universe. And also, I can't figure out how he turned human for the life of me. Did he "will" himself that way when he finally defeated the Brainiac inside himself? Did a passing magician decide that this was the best way to keep him from going, as Superman X put it, "Old-school Brainiac on the galaxy" again? Willpower's strong, but not THAT strong. I'm willing to bet a good chunk of why Brainy's taking a sabbatacle from the Legion is because he can't make what happened fit logically, lol.

Oh, and have I mentioned that I HATE WB?!? TERRIBLE PLACE TO LEAVE A SERIES OFF!! The finale with Brainy's character was really a good spot to end, but what's up with the last 10 seconds?? Brainy's robotic Brainiac self evolved and rebuilt itself! PERFECT new villain for a later season, and the series ends. After only two seasons, and after it FINALLY started to live up to its potential. DANG IT. *sob* And Brainy's left the Legion...not permanently, but for the rest of the series...because it ended...not fair...

So here's Brainy as he appeared for most of Season Two, and then for the last five minutes after his robotic parts split off him...magically. Personally, I want to make his eyes maroon; it'll match his old eyes better, and the green just blends a little too easily with his skin tone. I may do that for future human Brainy art.
The fire on the diodes in the background is a reference to the "Burnin' Brainies" (as my sister put it) that punched the CIRCUTS out of the Brainiac 1.0 in his brain (finest. Brainy. moment. EVER). SO doing fanart of Brainy smouldering with the fires of righteous fury, lol.

EDIT: OK, just an FYI. Its getting mentioned that this episode was written either to jokingly tease fans with what could have been, or to try to save the series by increasing potential. I laugh with you all as we make these jokes, but keep this in mind: episodes are made months to a YEAR in advance of them airing. They are EXPENSIVE and TIME CONSUMING to make. So this episode was finished LONG before the announcement to cancel the series was made. Kids WB probably had an idea that they were in their death throws, but nothing was certain. This episode was done with the idea that there'd be at least one more season out there. That's why this is a true tragedy; the series never got to truely end. Most cancelled series don't; Danny Phantom was unique in that it got enough advanced warning, and Butch Hartman was determined enough to MAKE and ending despite the cost and time. But as fun as it is to claim that Kids WB is taunting us (which gives us a good reason to be mad at them), just remember that Kids WB didn't know the series would be cancelled, so they can't really claim credit for trying to save the series or mock us.
But it's still fun to say so. ^_^
