9 My Way

Description

DOWNLOAD (oops I said "full size" in the original commentary, my bad) for a pic that is only 10 pixels short of a wallpaper! (Yeah, it ended up that close and I didn't notice until I uploaded it here, lol).

So like I said in the sketch for this, I think I officially have a fettish...yeah, anyone who watches me knows I have a tendancy of turning non-human characters into humans. I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that I'm more comfortable drawing what I at least have some know-how in drawing (I don't consider myself good at gizmo stuff, so giant robots and little stitch punks are a little beyond my comfort zone, as much fun as they still are).
Blame my dreams though; they're the real culprites. This kinda stuff keeps happening. HOW it happens is often as amusing/interesting as the finished product, but I'd be talking forever if I outlined the whole 9 sequel that my subconcious pitched to me the night after I saw this movie. All I know is that I had to draw something, lol. ALSO ALL THE STITCHIES COME BACK TO LIFE AT THE END OF THE MOVIE. Yes even jerky #1. I NEED TO BELIEVE THIS.

I imagine this is the gang gathering for a group photo. 7, not liking her position, has opted to use 8 as a climbing post to get higher up. 8 is wondering why she and 6 are using him as backdrops. Most everyone is waiting for the camera to go off, but 5 wonders if its really working, so 9 starts to step forwards to check. *FLASH*

This took like...a LOOOONG time to draw/color, mainly cause of what was going on in my life. Mix my usual luck + little sis getting married + Christmas + family (including a distracting twin sis) coming to town = not doing much art, lol. So after weeks to a month of being in the works, I finally sat down and banged out the rest in about 8 hours. Pretty fast actually, but I discovered that I do my art fastest when I'm testing new music (got a ton from siblings I have to sort through).

Creating human forms is always amusing for me. I took what I could remember from my dream and tweaked a few details on and off, and hopefully what I have left are characters that resemble their stitchies while also looking like survivors of a nuclear holocost. Although, maybe I should have ripped/dirtied a few more articles of clothing, I dunno...

The 9 world is very dismal, and a yellowish green light kinda permiates over everything. I tried to incorperate that in the colors I used, but I still didn't think it was greenish enough. So I slapped a 4% transparent yellow-green filter over the whole mess, and boy did that work, lol. If you think it needs more or less, I can always change it. And also, just FYI, I discovered my comp monitor shows colors a little more washed than other monitors....so yeah, a lot of my art is brighter than I thought...XD

Background was FUN!! I know, its astounding! But I love playing with clouds, and I got some fun new brushes for the occasion (not to mention I forgot where on my comp I had the other ones stored, lol). So playing with different colored clounds really was fun. Ground was just two shapes (one flat the other building bumpy) that I textured, so that was cake. Hopefully it all isn't too distracting from the characters; this is one of my more busy pics after all.

And BTW, I threw everyone's stichie versions of themselves in too, just to show that I CAN at least attempt their original forms, lol. I'd draw them better if I drew them bigger. XD

9 is copyrighted to Shane Acker and I think Focus Features...

I will never hear the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and think cute little Kansas scene ever again....O_o

Okay, I really hate this movie but your art makes me think: 'maybe this movie isn't too bad because it has a happy ending'.
